BRIC MEDIA ARTS

Completion: December 2019 Site: Brooklyn, NY Size: 3,500sf

Genuinely excited by BRIC’s strong physical presence in the Brooklyn Cultural District and by its vitality that permeates the borough, LUBRANO CIAVARRA focused the design for BRIC’s offices on the syncopated elements of video arts and editing. Within the new space, an internal media wall with its graphic exterior signage provides a composite (both visual and spatial) experience that unifies BRIC Offices and the Media Incubator with BRIC’s original Fulton Street space across the street. A proposed visible gesture of sidewalk signage ties the new site back to the Media Arts House and help solidify a new “BRIC Media Arts Corridor”.

LUBRANO CIAVARRA saw each day at the BRIC Office and Media Incubator as a new storyboard – every element of the program working together to create an environment which facilitates creative discovery, flexibility and interlaced collaboration for resident artists. Temporality is at the root of this approach. Mobile analog/digital stations can be reorganized day to day, project to project, and if need be, relocated to alternate future spaces. The multi-use stations offer storage, acoustic separation and varying degrees of privacy based on the environment’s specific needs. In maximizing the project’s limited budget by limiting site-specific investments, we utilized BRIC’s resources both effectively and efficiently.
