THE MANNER HOTEL
Completion: 2024 Site: New York, NY Size: 56,000sf
Conceived by Amar Lalvani, The Manner redefines the notion of luxury in a very distinct way. It speaks to the group’s generous manner of hospitality by coalescing the very best elements of a hotel, a private residence, and a member’s club to envelop guests with richly layered design, serene guest quarters, refined sense of intimacy, and caring service. The result is an effortlessly residential ambiance—a personal sense of style that evokes a feeling rather than a bold statement. Whether it’s The Apartment, a guests-only space where careful curation intertwines with lived-in comfort, to each of the 97 rooms, every detail reflects impeccable taste and a deep appreciation for the extraordinary. The design philosophy is stylish, welcoming, and utterly captivating—a place where guests feel they’ve truly arrived.
Located in the heart of SoHo, The Manner represents a defined approach to hospitality, described by Vogue as "like staying at your most stylish friend's home." While sharing a lineage with The Standard, The Manner forges its own distinct identity. The architects revamped the existing property with bursts of New York glamour and spectacle. The design is a collaboration between The Standard’s Chief Design Officer, Verena Haller, and Milanese residential architect Hannes Peer. The wholesale renovation of the 12-story building included its façade, lobby, restaurant, bar, lounge, elevator cabs, and all 97 guest rooms, including the penthouse.
From the façade’s undulating celadon-glazed terracotta tiles to the high gloss egg-yolk yellow walls of the guest suites, the architecture features a blend of textures, colors, and materials that evoke a sense of discovery and intimacy. Vogue continues to describe The Manner as “Gio Ponti on acid, with a dash of classic New York, Studio 54-worthy glitz.” Reflective sheens and bold color work to create a backdrop for moments of admiration, encouraging guests to pause at The Lobby’s travertine water feature, linger around The Apartment’s gravity-defying firepit, and languish with a cocktail in Sloane's moody bar.
