NYCxDESIGN Awards: NYC’s Shining Moment Winner 2024
At LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B, LUBRANO CIAVARRA recently opened the state-of-the-art Atrium Business & Conference Center which has been hailed by Paul Goldberger in the NYTimes as “La Guardia’s Living Room”. Designed to support large public events (up to 1,300 people) with its grand stage and curved LED backdrop, conference rooms offer flexibility to host meetings as small as ten and as large as 200. The Pour Authority Coffee and Wine Bar, The Little Flower Pre-Function Bar, and the Orpheus and Apollo Lounge at the upper deck offer various dining options open to the public and for private events.
The space proudly houses the Orpheus and Apollo sculpture by Richard Lippold, a cherished piece reclaimed from its original Lincoln Center home of Avery Fisher Hall. This iconic 1962 suspended art installation influenced the design and materials used within the space, which recognize New York’s history and cultural heritage. A grand ramp’s fluid form mirrors the exuberant trajectory of an airplane’s jet stream, beckoning visitors towards extended city views. Stainless steel materials pay homage to the robust construction of aircraft, while warm metallic accents and LED screens offer a visual journey through iconic New York, providing a frame and a backdrop for the various activities they flank.
